The Philippines on Saturday recorded 39,004 Covid-19 cases- the highest recorded single day case count— bringing the total number of infections to 3,168,379.

There were also 23,613 recoveries and 43 deaths.

Of the 39,004 reported cases today, 38,271 (98 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days (January 2 – January 15, 2022).

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were National Capital Region with 18,142 or 47 percent, Region 4A (9,172 or 24 percent) and Region 3 (3,325 or 9 percent).

Of the 43 deaths, 38 occurred in January 2022 (88 percent), 1 in October 2021 (2 percent), 1 in September 2021 (2 percent), 1 in August 2021 (2 percent), 1 in May 2021 (2 percent), and 1 in March 2021 (2 percent) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

The Department of Health (DOH) saud that this issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date.

Of the total number of cases, 8.9 percent (280,813) are active, 89.5 percent (2,834,708) have recovered, and 1.67 percent (52,858) have died”

There were 134 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 83 are recoveries.

In addition, 3 cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count.

Moreover, 10 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on January 13, 2022 but 8 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

Based on data in the last 14 days, the 8 labs contribute, on average, 2.2 percent of samples tested and 2.2 percent of positive individuals.
