BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon’s prime prosecutor Wednesday requested all suspects detained in the deadly 2020 port blast in Beirut introduced, a law firm for two detainees and judicial officials said.
The shift by main prosecutor Ghassan Oweidat is a different blow to the investigation, which has stalled for years. The probe has threatened to rattle Lebanon’s ruling elite, rife with corruption and mismanagement, that has aided thrust the state into an unprecedented economic meltdown.
The selection arrived soon after Judge Tarek Bitar on Monday resumed the investigation into the devastating port blast, adhering to a 13-thirty day period halt around lawful difficulties lifted by politicians accused in the probe — which includes the main prosecutor.
