THE Philippines logged 7,835 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Thursday, raising the total to 2.698 million infections, according to the Department of Health (DoH).

There were 84, 850 cases that were recorded as active, 88 percent of which were mild or asymptomatic, 7 percent moderate while the rest severe or critical.

The positivity rate in the country was recorded at 14 percent, with 51,538 samples tested by all but four laboratories on October 12.

At least 2.573 million people have recovered and 40,221 have died from the virus.

Occupancy rate for Covid-19 beds in intensive care units (ICUs), isolation units and wards in Metro Manila are at 61 percent, 42 percent and 47 percent respectively.

The national occupancy rate for Covid-19 beds in the ICUs is at 65 percent and 51 percent each in isolation units and wards.
